Front Porch Stories

A Weekend at Magnolia

Over the weekend, we were lucky enough to head down to Texas for the Silobration at Magnolia. If you have been to Magnolia, you know it is a dream. If you haven't, just know it is like walking into an adult woman's fairytale- and probably her kids and husband'd too! I joke it's like adult Disney because people are working everywhere to make ever corner beautiful! Every detail is covered and then checked over again. I'm talking employees cutting dead flowers off plants with scissors. And before you pass judgement on that, think of it this way, someone who loves to garden now has a job doing something that sets their soul on fire! If that doesn't get your feels going, I don't know what will! I told you over on my Instagram that my Silobration experience was life changing, and it really was (but probably not in the way you are thinking)- I will get to that.

First, lets cover some of the logistics for any of you who may be planning to go in the future.

When || The past three years, the Silobration has been in the middle of October. I don't know this to be fact, but I think they *might* schedule around Baylor's football schedule because they use the stadium for extra parking.

Tickets || I double checked my emails, and tickets went on sale at the end of June. I'm not 100% sure when they sold out, but I know they did. Tickets were $25 this year but I wouldn't be surprised if they increase as a way of controlling crowds.

Dates || Dates for the Silobration where released in early April (I also went back into the dark cave that is my inbox to verify that) and we booked our hotel that day! And thank goodness we did!! The rooms at our hotel went up over $200 within just a few days!!

Planning your time || The Silobration kicks off on a Thursday, but the concert is only on Friday and Saturday nights. The vendors are only there for the Silobration so take advantage of those! The close shop at 6pm when the concert starts. The bakery is also closed. But the store and food trucks inside the gate are open! We grabbed dinner there and had a picnic on the lawn.

Okay, enough of that. I know there will probably be some question, and please leave those in the comments. I will do a full Travel Guide of Waco and Magnolia, but I am about to burst with excitement to get into the whole life changing thing.

A little back story- I am a firm believer that God gives us seasons- in fact, there is a bible verse supporting this (Ecclesiastes 3:1). Inside my seasons, he gives me themes. To be straight with you, this idea of themes comes from my MIL (justgiving credit where it's due). Sometimes I get themes that last a few days, sometimes months and sometimes they all start intertwining like a spider web. And that my friends is where we are right now.

I'm going to skip forward a little in the story (and come back to that another day). This Silobration fell on the 'weight' of the announcement that Season 5 will be the last season of Fixer Upper. Opinion on this have been loud and vast. So here is mine, "Good for them!" And this my friends is where it all came together for me. Without giving too much away, do you remember Chip's search for people to help make their dreams come true? Some of the finalist made their way to Waco and Chip and Jo gave away over $50,000 just the night we were there. They didn't give money to one person, they gave money to all three!! And the next night, they had three more finalist to love on.

Are you following me here? Chip and Jo not only made the decision to leave the show that started it all (for their family), but they are showering, serving and blessing others with their blessing! Maybe I am just overly sensitive because of where I am in my life but this rocked my world! I was so inspired and encouraged by this!! I left feeling so much hope for our world and my life. It gave my a clear vision on my goals, but also my journey and the hope that it could all become a reality and maybe even so much more! And this my friends is why I said my life was changed by a few hours at the Silos.

Preserving Memories

We recently found out our timeline for our upcoming move was pushed back a few weeks. That means it may be two to three more months before we even know where we are moving to. The uncertainty isn't the only terrible thing about moving, so is losing things.

The only thing we have been able to determine we lost during our last move, is the very first Cannon picked for me. It's possible the flower was lost before the move, but whatever happened, the flowers is no where to be found. The last time I remember seeing it, it was in Cannon's baby book, so who knows where it is now.

Cannon recently picked me another flower, and I wanted to add it to the first, when I realized it was missing. I did not want to chance losing this one, and quickly started looking for options to preserve this one. That's when I found Rachel with Rachel Keppeler Designs. She makes custom Essential Blossom Necklaces, among many other beautiful creations! We immediately got to work preserving the flowers from my little man!

Rachel has a ton of different options, and her turnaround time is unbelievably fast!! She has the most beautiful Natural Stone Collection. I have my eyes on some earrings from that collection. Her Dainty Collection has one of my favorite pieces she carries (Ox Horn Moon Necklace).  She also designs floral pillow cases, wall prints and coffee mugs. Check out her website {here} and place your order!! You can use code frontporchstories for 15%!

Asher || 4 Months

**This post may contain affiliate links.**

Our sweet Asher is just over four months and those four months have passed in a blink! Our sweet boy has called two states home and already been to four. He is a beautiful cuddle muffin and as sweet as can be. However, he refuses to be out shined by his big brother and is develop quite the personality. He is relatively easy going; but if he doesn't like something he will not hesitate to let you know! His sleep routine is entirely unpredictable and he loves to eat!!

I could have never asked for a better baby! He was the perfect baby God knew we need. His giggle and smile will stop you in your tracks. And if that doesn't get you, his eyes will. Everything they say about your heart growing is an inconceivable idea until you experience it and this sweet baby did that for us.

  • Height & Weight || 13 lbs 11 oz,  24 inches long (in case you are a new follower he was 5 lbs 15 oz and 19" at birth)
  • He is over his activity mat. In fact, it has been behind the chair in out living room for over two weeks and he has be on it maybe once.
  • He can roll from his belly to his back. And rolled from hid back to his belly for the first time while I was typing this.
  • He chats NONSTOP!!
  • He loves to smile and laugh.
  • He is fighting HARD to sit up!! With support from us or the couch, he can pull himself into a seated position and hold it for just a few seconds.
  • Asher only dislikes a couple things. 1.) being hungry and 2.) anytime he feels like he is not part of the group.
  • He sleeps in a HALO sleep sack every night. Although, I recently heard of another brand I would like to try.
  • He is officially outgrowing his cradle and will be soon transitioning into the baby crib.
  • He refuses to take a paci and very reluctantly sucks his fingers or thumb.
  • He is in size 3 diapers.
  • He is hanging onto 3 month clothes but 6 months are just a tint bit too big right now.
  • He has discovered his feet and hands, and thinks they are pretty cool!
  • Loves bath time

The Gray Door Market

Happy Wednesday buddies!! I cannot believe it's been almost two weeks since I was able to get a post up. Our entire house was sick last week and left us playing catch up this week, but I am back! I have an exciting event to share with you today!! If you follow me on Instagram, I have been talking about The Gray Door Market over the last week. I even gave away two sets of tickets to the Priority Shopping event!! Today I wanted to share all the details in one place, and share some tips on tackling a vintage market for any of you first timers.

The Gray Door Market Fall Show is only 3 DAYS AWAY!!! It's This Saturday in East Bend, North Carolina at Divine Llama Vineyards (4126 Divine Lama Lane East Bend, NC 27018). Being in a Vineyard makes this market one of the most beautiful!! But the vendors are amazing and steal the show! It's a calming and inspiring show to shop, and that's what makes it one of my favorites. Priority Shopping starts at 9am and if I were you, that's when I would plan on showing up!! IF you have to wake up at 5am to get there by them, DO IT!! Priority Shopping will cost you $10. This keeps the crowds down, because typically only the most dedicated shoppers want to get up that early, and pay for their ticket. But y'all I am telling you, you do not want to miss that opportunity! You can purchase tickets {here}. If you do purchase a priority shopping ticket, and show up early. Plan to get there around 8:45, check in and cross your fingers that you are the winner of that $500 shopping spree made possibly by the sponsors of the event (some of the vendors).

Why you want to shop Priority Shopping:

While many vendors may have pieces to replenish their booth with, it will be just that- a replenish, not a restock. Many of the items are found vintage or antique pieces and once they are gone, they're gone. You do not want to miss the opportunity to shop first and early and snagthose one of a kind pieces!!

If you are not a morning person or can't make it that early, it's okay. The event runs until 5pm. If you show up at 11am, you will only need $5 per car for parking. If we ever make our way back to North Carolina, I'll be planning on making a day there. The whole family will go and make a day of it. While I'm shopping, Logan can take the boys to check out the llamas. Then we'll meet back up for a glass of wine for me, and a cup of coffee for Logan before he drives us home. Think he'll approve of this adventure? I don't know, but it sounds like a perfect day to me!

Tips for a vintage market:

If this is your first vintage market, I have some tips for you.

  1. Take something to stroll your stuff in. if your arms are full of bags, ho can you pick things up to look at them and continue to shop? Trick question, you can't. Nothing is worse than having money left in your budget but being out of arm space. I take a wagon (sometimes the Radio Flyer but prefer a canvas folding wagon) if the babies are not going. If the babies are going, the big stroller is a must. An umbrella stroller's wheels are just too tiny. I do not suggest them!! (Make that mistake). I prefer something that folds up pretty small, leaving me with more room for goodies! (This is why I like the folding canvas wagons). These run around $40-$50 but totally worth it of you plan on attending these regularly. Be aware your strolling piece may not fit into every booth, but you can park it just outside and still have eyes on it the entire time!
  2. Take a reusable tote. Most vendors will have small plastic bags, but they may not be big enough for larger pieces, and they help mange lots of smaller bags. But if you forget, Haley has the cutest "I'll antique your roadshow" totes!!
  3. Take cash. Most vendors do have square readers. But not all. Plus, some has spending minimums, and with everyone using data, I have seen it freeze up and stop working. You don't want to miss out on that perfect piece because you didn't have cash!
  4. If you are taking your babies, take an iPad, snacks and plenty of water!

I'm linking you to some of my favorite vendors!!

Lastly, {here} is Haley's blog post from last year to give you a visual idea of what to expect!

Thanks for stopping by!!

Eyewear that makes a Difference

Thank you to Diff Charitable Eye Wear for sponsoring this post.

It's almost September, and in my opinion it is safe to say we are officially transitioning to Fall. I have been trying to transition for at least a month now anyways. But y'all, it is still 95 degrees here most days. I am having to get real creative when I dress us all. I find denim to be perfect no matter what time of year it is. And a thin, light weight breathable cami helps fight the heat. Add some rich fall tones like olive and your have a perfect transitional outfit even when it's 100 degrees!!

This is my first season working towards a capsule. I'm not 100% there, but I am working on it!

Another side story, the bison. Cannon has had it for months, but now that he has seen them in real life, he goes everywhere with us. When we get ready to leave, Cannon can always be caught stuffing it into my bag. He also sleeps with it every night. He officially sleeps with a puppy, a blankie and the bison.

As I began planning my Summer to Fall capsule wardrobe, I knew I would need some new sunglasses! Between two babies- one a maniac toddler, and our move all my sunglasses were stretched, scratched or broken. When I came across DIFF I knew they were a brand I wanted to support and help grow! DIFF provides a pair of glasses to a person in need for every pair of sunglasses. You can use code FRONTPORCHSTORIES for 25% off!!

Slow and Cozy Sunday

I don't know that I have ever been more ready to take on Monday. Y'all... that is seriously saying something, because I almost get the Monday dread every Sunday. This weekend was a lovely, slow and relaxing weekend. I had some time to almost catch up on work which is a victory all it's own. I had an opportunity to talk to several friends and family members, and it gave me time to reflect on so many things on so many levels-maybe I will share more of that soon. I am starting this week feeling less stressed, less overwhelmed and more organized than I have in some time!

More importantly,  this weekend I had time to spend with God- to think about the direction he is taking my life. To understand the importance of slowing down and listening to where we wants me to go, having the courage to trust his plan and step back far enough to listen.

There are some seriously amazing this happening in our life right now and I could not be more thankful. I am thankful to God. I am thankful for friends and family he has blessed me with and I am thrilled to be meeting the people he is putting in my life and allowing me to learn and grow from. There are some exciting things coming your way; I hope you will stick around to watch it all unfold.

Happy Monday, and here's to a great week!

Friday Five- 1K Giveaw

On Fridays around here, I will be talking about five things. This Friday, I am going to highlight the five shops that help me put together a sweet giveaway!

Are you following me on Instagram? If not, I recently reached 1K Followers & to celebrate, I put together a little giveaway!!

If you would like to enter, head over to my Instagram page {here}, and all the details to enter are under the picture.

Here's a little about the small shops that help me put this together!

Ellison Made is a stunning small shop I found through Instagram. I have followed Brittany for quite some time now but only recently started engaging with her. Brittany is one of the kindest, sweetest, more sincere souls I have ever known. God truly placed this fellow believer in my life for a reason!

Gather and Flourish Lauren is another kind soul. I started following her through Instagram earlier this year. She and I have more in common than I first realized. She is someone I love to connect with and she encourages me every day.

The Southern Peony I found Ashley through Instagram when I found a beautiful picture of her daughter. This let me to her page where she makes custom signs. She is currently living in Florida, but guess what, she is a Tennessee girl too!! I love that God placed her in my life!

Break your Crayons I discover Break Your Crayon's when Jillian Harris shared some pieces they send her sweet little boy Leo. I instantly fell in love. Bonus points, Jillian Harris' son Leo reminds me so much of Cannon at one. The skull and cross bones set is on my fall wish list for the boys!

Beck and Jules I first started following Beck and Jules through Holly's Instagram page. Y'all... she takes Home Decor to the next level. I love everything about her house and it inspires me to declutter... a lot! Once I realized she owned a business I well I was hooked. I am already looking at her suspenders and bowties for Asher's first birthday. She also makes some beautiful bows!!

Instagram has connected me to so many sweet people! It's comforting to know in a world that seems overran with hate, it's not at all! There are still so many kind, sweet, loving people in this world!!

Have a great weekend!!

Documenting your Days

Thank you to Texting Journal by Memorybox for sponsoring this post.

I know I am not the only mama out there who wants to document every single detail of every single day of their children's lives. But every single day, before I know it, the day has ended, and no journal entry has been made.

It only took me about a day after Cannon was born to realize I wasn't going to be able to keep up with his baby book. I was trying to write directly in it, and it was not happening. Truth be told, I think he as almost a week old before we even got his foot prints in his baby book. I knew I needed to come up with something else to keep track of his little life. I started a notes page in my phone titled Cannon's Baby Book. Before too long I realized I was usually catching milestones, but I wasn't capturing funny stories, documenting his sweet smile and the way his little face changed so quickly nor was I writing down his favorite books or toys.

I attempted to do better with this, but when I found time to sit down and write, I always seemed to draw a blank.

When Asher was born I refused to be so terrible at documenting his days. When I found Texting Journal I knew I had to have it!! Texting Journal works by sending you a daily prompt via text. You text in your response, and it is saved in your secure account. Depending on your plan, you can also send pictures along with your text response. You'll have 24/7 access to your entries to read or edit them. Texting Journal allows you to export your memories and/or have them printed into a hard cover book.

I personally love the prompts sent by Texting Journal, but if you have something you want to add in, that's no problem. You can send in a thought or a memory at anytime! You never have to wait on the prompt.

I have my prompts set to come in at night, so I can send in my prompt as I am getting ready for bed. If I forget it, it's there waiting on me the next morning. Texting Journal is currently offering a free trial. Head over to their website {here}!
